FLY FISHING EXCURSIONS Visualize yourself fly-casting in a crystal clear mountain stream with a backdrop of snow-covered peaks, mountain meadows, beaver ponds and aspen groves. There is no doubt that Rocky Mountain National Park and the lake and streams surrounding Estes Park offers Colorado fly-fishing at its best. Rocky Mountain National Park offers catch and release programs for anglers. The streams are jumping with wild rainbow, browns, brookies and cutthroats. Due to the high altitude and the short growing season these active trout range from 8 to 10 inches. Fly-fishing season begins in late March and runs through mid-December. The Big Thompson River that runs through Estes Park and into Lake Estes – and then down the U.S. Hwy. 34 canyon, is an amazing fishery. The river boasts larger water runs than the National Park with the same quality of fishing. Brown trout, Rainbow trout and a hybrid Cut-bow trout are all found in the Big Thompson River. Visit a fishing pro shop in Estes Park and work with area fly-fishing experts who will help you craft your own fly-fishing adventure. If you prefer, clinics to hone your skills and professionally guided fly-fishing tours are available. From beginner to expert, your guided trip will be tailored to maximize your enjoyment while you learn the finer points of fly fishing.
