||SILENT MOVIES COMEDY SHOW AT THE HISTORIC PARK THEATER!
Very few, if any of us, ever had the pleasure of hearing Hazel Baldwin perform a piano accompaniment to silent movies in the Park Theatre. That was “back in the day” after all.
And few, if any of us, have ever seen a silent film accompanied by a live piano in a theater with the tradition and history of The Historic Park Theatre in Estes Park, Colorado.
Thus, partly as a tribute to Hazel and the silent film era and as a fundraiser for the Park Theatre, but primarily because it’s just great entertainment, Steve Smersh and the Historic Park Theatre are pleased to bring you three days of Silent Film Matinees on Thursday, Friday and Saturday the 19th, 20th and 21st of July, 2012.
Each day you will see a GREAT COMEDY SHOW with SELECTED MASTERPIECES of the BEST COMEDIANS from the SILENT MOVIE ERA; it’s wholesome fun for the entire family.
We are all familiar with motion pictures and the sound that accompanies them, but very few, if any of us, have ever experienced the fusion of the two art forms: LIVE PIANO and CINEMA. Moreover, while there are a few silent films being shown at various venues here and there, most are accompanied by a recorded sound track, not by an actual live piano, and not by an accomplished and seasoned silent movie pianist with the talent of OMAR ARRIAGA.
Omar started playing piano and other musical instruments at the age of 15. At 22 he completed four years of study at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City. He has played with bands, ensembles and as a soloist ever since, developing an array of diverse styles.
These days he performs in several groups, public and private concerts, churches, and produces his popular Silent Movie Show which began in 2009 in San Carlos, Sonora and just finished its 4th successful season. He has developed a improvisational style drawing from classical, ragtime, blues, pop, rock and others... to make each Silent Film performance a UNIQUE, ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME presentation.
The PARK THEATRE is celebrating its 99th year! What could be more fitting than running up to their 100 year anniversary by showing movies as they were during the first years of operation? And who better than the talented Omar Arriaga to accompany them.
Come to one of the matinees and enjoy this rare, delightful, one-of-a-kind event... a unique opportunity to see silent movies just as they were performed 99 years ago, in a theater 99 years old!
